Answer: The X model variation replaces the 70 centimeter frequency band (400-520 MHz) with the 1.25 meter frequency band (220-260MHz) THe UV-82X is used more commonly for amateur (ham) radio use.
FAQ: What is the Difference Between UV-82 and UV-82L or UV-89
Answer: There is no difference besides a marketing gimmick other resellers use. The UV-82L is advertised as a UV-82 with a larger battery – but the truth is the battery is dishonestly labeled. It says 3000mha when in all reality it is still 1800mha battery (deception at its finest).
The Dual PUsh-To-Talk Difference
The UV-82 Series come with a dual push-to-talk button. The dual PTT is a huge leap forward in the HT technology. It allows you to transmit on two frequencies by the use of the rocker PTT switch. By pressing up you can transmit on “Frequency A” and by pushing down you can transmit on “Frequency B”. Frequency A or B can also be used as a scanner of channels, frequencies, CTCSS and DTS tones.
